Many people love Halloween and I do too. But I once read the book Wonder, and the main character of the book is a school aged boy who has a deformed face due to some complications during birth. For him, Halloween was the only day of the year where he could be treated as normal amongst his peers and people of this world. While others used that day to be abnormal and be creative with their costumes, he used the day to dress up as his favorite movie character AND be treated normally. I used to say Halloween was silly, but it now seemed to be a more meaningful holiday. Another reason why I love Halloween is because it is so American. I lived abroad for almost all of my 20s and Halloween was not a celebrated holiday where I lived. So, when I returned to America last year, I made sure to go all out! Last year, I was Wonder Woman, and this year, I was a clown AND a ninja. That’s right- I bought TWO costumes. Too extra? That was my goal.
