Living completely alone may be preferable to a lot of people, but it is not for me. I get lonely often and FOMO. When I come home to an empty house, I wonder what my roommates are doing that is so fun- fun enough to not come home. While living with roommates all throughout college was a learning experience that shaped me to adjust myself to be more flexible in living with others, it didn’t quite teach me the responsibilities I needed to learn. Completely living all by myself in Korea for 7 years taught me more than enough to be responsible. It taught me to take care of utilities and bills, fix broken appliances if fixable, and to recycle! This is something I am very passionate about! Our comfort and ignorance should not be at the expense of the Pacific Gyre (or North Atlantic Gyre in the case of the East Coast)!!! Anyways, I changed schools 3 times during my stay in Korea, and each time I changed jobs, I had to move apartments. I think I moved 3 or 4 times and each time, I packed my stuff alone, moved it to the truck alone, moved it into my new apartment alone, and unpacked/organized it alone. It was good because I could throw out unnecessary stuff and not hoard over stupid things. It was annoying because it was time consuming, expensive, and my arms hurt. However, it taught me to be a pro at moving, finding and negotiating with realtors, and organizing my room.
